Misanthrope looks like someone is missing a rope, can you see it? Memories are struggling to get out of a dark and deep well, a few succeed. There must be billions in that well of memories because a few make it up on a regular basis, seemingly fresh ones...like how did this memory even happen to stand here now? If you make it out of a dark well to the light of day you'd think that you would be elated, but no! The misanthrope memories want to have a parade, ticker tapes, balloons and lots of screaming kids. Some of these memories are downright angry. "why did you leave me stuck in that well all this time?!" they might ask. And I say "I didn't do that! I lived you and forgot about you, that's how life is supposed to be."
There are people in the neighborhood or at work that you see regularly so what do you say? "how are you?" What an odd thing to just blurt out without even thinking as if you really want to stand there and listen to their life story..."fine." they usually reply...and then they cordially say: "how are YOU?" "fine thanks" you say. But once in a while just that little innocuous: "how are you?" opens a pandora's box and you're off to the races. "I'm so ANGRY!" they say. So you take a breath and relax your feet into the ground because you know NOW that you'll be standing there for longer than you had hoped.
"why are you angry? What got you all worked up?" you obligingly ask. "that's the thing!" they say. "I woke up fine, had coffee, a lovely danish and a pleasant drive to work and then it just came over me!" "Oh My Granny Corn Flakes!" I say, "I thought it was something serious! That's just a misanthrope memory that escaped out of the well! Just give it a balloon and it will settle down".
